Along with cold-rolled steel, hot-rolled steel plate is also a type of steel used in many manufacturing industries today. So what is a hot-rolled steel plate? What are the technical specifications, advantages, and applications? Check out the article below before you decide to buy this product for your project!
What is a hot rolled steel plate? What types are there?
Hot-rolled steel plate is a type of steel that is rolled into thin steel billets at high temperatures (1000 degrees Celsius). It is thin, flat, and has a characteristic blue-black color. Hot-rolled steel has a relatively rough, shiny surface and a thickness of about 1 mm or more.
- Regular Hot Rolled Steel

Hot rolled steel production process
To get the finished product you see on the market, hot rolled steel plate has been produced according to the following process:
Step 1: Iron ore processing
Iron ore is crushed, filtered to remove impurities, and mixed with coke, limestone, and other additives to create an ore mixture. This ore is put into a blast furnace to melt and form a liquid pig iron mixture.
Step 2: Steelmaking
The pig iron is put into an oxygen furnace to remove impurities and add some other alloys to form steel grades according to customer requirements.
Step 3: Casting billets
The obtained steel will be heated, poured into molds, and formed into steel billets.
Step 4: Hot rolling
The steel billets are put into a furnace with a temperature above 1000 degrees Celsius. When the steel is melted, it will be put into rolling racks to be rolled thinly, forming steel plates with the desired thickness and size.
The worker will trim and remove excess material on the steel plate. At the same time, check whether the components meet the required standards.
The above is just a quick summary of the steps in producing hot-rolled steel plates. To get the product that meets the customer’s requirements, the worker must perform many other steps. Along with that, the appropriate machinery is used to get the shape and size that the customer wants. You can see more about the steel plate processing process to see this more clearly.

Advantages of hot rolled iron sheet
It is not by chance that hot rolled sheet iron is so popular today. It must possess many outstanding advantages:
- The hot-rolled sheet has high flexibility, is easy to bend, and can be shaped as desired. Thanks to that, it helps construction workers save a lot of time and effort.
- It has good durability and load-bearing capacity. Therefore, hot-rolled steel plates are used in many load-bearing structures such as factories, bridges, roads, etc.
-
Hot-rolled steel plates can be easily welded to the system by methods such as arc welding, stick welding, etc.
-
The cost of hot-rolled steel plates is much cheaper than cold-rolled steel or other stainless steel lines. This helps project owners save some costs.
Applications of hot rolled steel plate
With the above advantages, hot rolled sheet iron is present in many applications such as:

- Making door frames for public works, houses, etc.
- Making partitions for offices or houses.
- Making floors, stairs, railings, fences
- Used to manufacture machine parts
- Used to make drums, car frames, rails, train cars, shipbuilding, etc.
- Used to process household appliances, all kinds of racks or ventilation systems, fans, etc.
- Household appliances: Fans, racks, ventilation systems, metal barrels.
