Continuing the series of articles on popular types of faucets on the market. This article by Bao Tin Steel will introduce to you threaded flanges. Its unique structure enables the use of pipes without the need for welding. To better understand this type of spade, see the article below!
What is a threaded flange?
Threaded flanges (also known as screwed flanges) are the type with holes inside the flange that are threaded. The flange has an internal thread, while the installed pipe will have an external thread. Although still available in most sizes and pressure ratings, threaded flanges are today only used in small pipe sizes

This type of threaded flange is quite commonly used in piping systems. Especially in locations where flange welding cannot be used. However, its biggest drawback is that it easily causes leaks when under too much pressure. Therefore, when using this type of threaded flange, pipe construction workers need to pay attention to the pipe wall thickness. Because when the pipe wall is thick, thread processing is also easier.
For example, for steam systems with pressures above 250 psi or water services above 100 psi with water temperatures above 220° F, piping must use cast steel pipe. and this pipe must have a thickness of at least SCH80 of ASME B36.10.

Screwed flange construction
To connect a threaded flange, it is composed of the following main components:
- Threaded flange
- Threads
- Pipe or fittings

Materials for manufacturing threaded flanges
Below are popular flange manufacturing materials on the market today:
Carbon steel
This is one of the common materials for manufacturing flanges, including threaded flanges. Many people wonder, “What is a steel threaded flange?”. The simple answer is that this is a threaded flange made from carbon steel. They will meet standards such as ASTM/ASME A/SA105 A/SA105N, DIN 10402, DIN 10460, DIN 10619,…
Stainless steel
Stainless steel is also a widely used material to create flanges in general and stainless steel threaded flanges in particular. Stainless steel types such as 304, 316, and 316L rust less, have a long life, and comply with production standards such as ASTM/ ASME A/SA182 F304, F304L, F316, F316L,… Stainless steel threaded flanges have common sizes such as DN15, DN100, DN25, DN32, DN50, DN65, DN80,…
Cast iron
This material is suitable for manufacturing flanges used at low pressure. Cast iron is more brittle and more susceptible to cracking and breaking, so this type of flange is also cheaper than the other materials.
Copper
Copper types T1, T2, C10100, C10200, C10300, C10400, C10500, C10700, TP1, TP2, C10930, C11000, C11300, C11400, C11500, C11600, C12200, C12300, TU1, TU2, C125 00,… used in manufacturing threaded flange. Copper conducts well and is also highly resistant to corrosion.
Plastic
PVC, CPVC, and HDPE plastics are used to create plastic threaded flanges. This type of flange is lightweight so it is easier to install and move. However, because of that, it is less resistant and cannot work under high pressure and temperature conditions.

>> In addition to threaded flanges, there are many other types on the market. You can see more popular flange lines for more options!
Advantages of screwed flange
Threaded flanges are an important pipe fitting and have many advantages, including:
- Flexible installation capabilities. A threaded flange can be fitted to pipes of various sizes without welding. This provides more flexible and convenient installation in many applications.
- Threaded flanges are commonly used in small-diameter pipes.
- Threaded flanges are used in high-pressure pipes or near places where welding heat treatment is not possible.
- High durability and reliability. Threaded flanges are used in high-pressure applications and are capable of withstanding heavy loads. They are also highly reliable throughout use.
- Save time and costs. Bolted flanges are a time- and cost-saving solution for the installation and maintenance of piping systems. Installing and disassembling threaded flanges is quicker and easier than welding pipes.
- Safe and suitable for special applications. The threaded MBs are suitable for use in applications where welding is hazardous and in areas where there is a high risk of explosion.

Application of threaded flanges
Below are some applications of flange lace:
- Water pipeline system, wastewater discharge pipe.
- Oil and compressed air filtration system.
- Chemical production system.
- Wine production system.
- And some other systems.
With its versatility and ability to work in many different environments, the bolted flange is an important pipe fitting and is widely used in many different applications.
Conclusion
Threaded flanges are important pipe fittings in industry, widely used in various applications. In particular, threaded flanges are commonly used in pipeline systems where welding cannot be used, small pipelines, as well as flammable areas.
