What is a U-bolt?
U-bolts are a special accessory used to connect steel bars. They are often used in construction and mechanical work, helping to create solid steel structures. Some other names of U-bolts and steel connectors are called U-shaped clamps, a type of U bolt, or steel U connectors.
U-bolts are typically made from high-strength steel and are designed to withstand loads, including compression, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, etc.
U-bolts are mainly used in bored pile construction. It specifically connects the main steel bars to strengthen the strength of the steel cage.
A complete U-bolt set will include a bolt body, plate, washer, and nut.
- Commonly used U-bolt bolts are M12, M14, and M16. The two ends are threaded with a length of 40mm to 60mm (similar to the 2-threaded Guzong).
- Base steel plates have regular thicknesses of 5 mm, 8 mm, and 10 mm. Plate width ranges from 40mm to 60mm, and base steel plate length ranges from 80mm to 110mm. These sizes will vary from size to size and upon customer request.
- Washers will depend on the bolt body size, usually M12, M14, or M16.

U-bolt production standards in Vietnam
Vietnamese standard TCVN 1916:1995 regulates dimensions and technical requirements for U-bolt types. This is one of the important standards to ensure the quality and safety of U-bolt products manufactured and used in Vietnam.
The TCVN 1916-1995 standard is divided into five main parts as follows:
- Scope of application: This section defines the scope of application of the standard, including technical requirements and types of U-bolts.
- General technical requirements: This section specifies the general requirements for size, shape, hardness, strength, ductility, elasticity, adhesion, coating thickness, and other requirements for various types of U-bolts.
- Cast-welded U-bolts: This section regulates the dimensions and weight of cast-welded U-bolts. Includes parameters such as bending diameter, width, height, hole diameter, and weight.
- U-bolt: This section regulates the size and weight of U-bolt types. Includes parameters such as bending diameter, width, height, hole diameter, bolt diameter, and weight.
- Quality assessment: This section stipulates the method of testing and assessing the quality of U-bolt types. Includes parameters such as hardness, durability, ductility, elasticity, adhesion, and coating thickness.

Experiments to evaluate U-bolt quality
U-bolt testing is performed to evaluate the quality of steel connection bolts, ensuring that products supplied to the market meet construction safety standards.
U-bolt standard TCVN 1916:1995 regulates quality assessment experiments, including the following:
Hardness test:
The experiment includes measuring the hardness of the U-bolt sample using a hardness tester. Hardness values are measured in Brinell (HB) or Rockwell (HRC) units.
Tensile test:
The experiment includes using a tensile machine to test the U-bolt sample and measure the sample’s tensile strength value. Tensile strength values are measured in units of N/mm2 or kgf/mm2..
Plasticity test:
The experiment includes using a press to test a U-bolt sample and measure the sample’s ductility value. The plasticity value is measured in units of N/mm2 or kgf/mm2.
Elasticity test:
The experiment includes using an extensometer to measure the elasticity value of the U-bolt sample. The elasticity value is measured in mm/m or %.
Adhesion test:
The test involves using an adhesion tester to evaluate the adhesion of the coating to a U-bolt sample.
Experiment to check size and shape:
