a flange rubber gasket. It is a type of gasket made from synthetic rubber that seals two pipe flanges together. Using this accessory will prevent the medium from being leaked into the environment.
Do you know why it is called a flange gasket? Flange gaskets work like other types of gaskets. However, they are called “flange gaskets” because they are designed to be used on the surface of the flange. To better understand this type of accessory, please follow the article below.
Flange Gasket Classification
ASME B16.2 standard specifies the types, dimensions, materials, tolerances, and product markings for gaskets.
If based on materials to classify gaskets, they are divided into 3 main types as follows:
- Non-metallic gasket types
- Semi-metallic gasket types
- Metallic gasket types
Non–metallic gasket types
Non-metallic gaskets are usually manufactured by molding from composite material sheets such as aramid fiber, fiberglass, elastic rubber, Teflon, asbestos gasket, etc., and are used for flanges in low-pressure applications.

There are currently 2 types of non-metallic gaskets: gaskets without bolt holes (Gasket raised face) and gaskets with bolt holes (Gasket full face).

The gasket type with bolt holes is suitable for flat flanges (FF flanges), while the gasket type without bolt holes is suitable for raised flanges (RF flanges). You can refer to the article RF and FF flanges to better understand these two types of flanges.
Semi-Metallic gasket types
Semi-metallic gaskets are a combination of metal and non-metallic composite materials. The fittings will inherit the pressure resistance, resilience, and durability of metals. Non-metallic inherits the sealing ability and compatibility with the flange surface.

Metal gasket types (Metallic gasket types)
Metal gaskets, also known as metal gaskets, are high-pressure, heat-resistant gaskets. Used to seal joints in pipes and heat exchangers between two surfaces connected by flanges.

At Bao Tin Steel, we not only provide high-quality gaskets but also help you understand them through the diverse classification of flange gaskets used in industry. So do you know what types of flange gaskets are popular on the market today?
Common types of flange gaskets
- Rubber gasket
- PTFE (Teflon) gasket
- Graphite gasket
- Asbestos gasket
- Silicon gasket

Popular types of flange rubber gaskets today
There are many types of flange gaskets, of which rubber gaskets are the most commonly used today. However, there are many types on the market, not just one. To better understand the issue of “types of flange rubber gaskets,” please read on:
* Flange rubber gaskets are classified as:
- By material. EPDM flange rubber gasket, PTFE (Teflon) flange gasket, NBR flange rubber gasket, SBR flange gasket, Neoprene flange gasket,…
- By flange standard. DIN standard flange rubber gasket, JIS standard rubber gasket, BS standard heat-resistant flange gasket, ANSI standard flange gasket,…
- By flange rubber gasket size. DN32 flange rubber gasket, DN40 flange gasket, DN50 flange gasket, DN100 flange rubber gasket, DN80 sealing gasket, DN200 sealing ring,…

Flange rubber gaskets have the following outstanding advantages: simple design; low cost; NBR Flange Rubber Gasket is resistant to heat and oil; silicone flange rubber gaskets are resistant to heat up to 300 degrees Celsius; flange gaskets have a variety of designs and sizes; EPDM flange rubber gaskets are elastic.
How to properly and technically install the gasket on the flange, and especially how to install the gasket so that the flange works effectively. This issue will be revealed through the article on how to install a flange connection that Bao Tin Steel shared earlier.
