Table to look up the weight of steel pipes

Because of their diversity and flexibility in application, round steel pipes are indispensable in large or small projects. So what types of steel pipes are there? What is the weight table for steel pipes? Today’s article will help readers understand more about them with beneficial data.

Current types of steel pipes

As mentioned, there are many types of steel pipes. Depending on each factor, people will call them by different names. Below is how to classify round steel pipes based on surface treatment.

Black steel pipes

This type of pipe is black or dark blue due to the iron oxide layer created during the manufacturing process. It is created by hot-rolling steel plates to high temperatures and then shaping steel pipes. This type of black pipe has high durability and a good bearing capacity. However, it is susceptible to corrosion and rust in humid environmental conditions.

Galvanized steel pipe

This is a type of steel pipe that has been coated with a layer of zinc on the outside. This zinc layer helps protect steel pipes against corrosion and oxidation. Thanks to that, even in harsh weather conditions, this galvanized pipe is quite durable. However, in terms of price, galvanized steel pipes will cost more than black steel pipes.

In addition, people also classify steel pipes based on their chemical composition. Including carbon steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, etc. Therefore, customers need to clearly understand their project in order to buy suitable and quality steel pipes.

How to calculate the weight of round steel pipes

Many people wonder, What if there is no table to look up the weight of steel pipes? So to find the result he wants, the worker must calculate it himself. This may seem a bit complicated, but this is a method that technicians can apply anywhere. Below is that formula:

M = 0.003141 * T(mm) * [O.D(mm) – T(mm)] * Density(g/cm³) x L(mm)

*In there:

  • M: round steel weight (Kg)
  • T: thickness (mm); W : width (mm); L : tube length (mm)
  • A : edge (mm); A1 : side 1 (mm); A2 : side 2 (mm)
  • I.D: inner diameter (mm);
  • O.D: outer diameter (mm)

For example: calculate the weight of a round steel pipe diameter D60 2.77 mm thick; 4 meter tree, we calculate as follows:

Pipe D60 has an exact outer diameter of D = 60.3 mm
T = 2.77 mm ; density of steel = 7.85 g/cm3 ; L = 4 meters
=> M = 0.003141 x 2.77 x (60.3 – 2.77) x 7.85 x 4 = 23.576 Kg
