In addition to the popular round flanges, square flanges are also in high demand. With a special square structure and the ability to work in many pressure conditions, square flanges are used in many hydraulic systems. If you find this file quite unfamiliar, this article is for you. Read now to learn more about this type of flange!
What is a square flange?
The square flange is a square flange. The main materials are steel (SF440A) and stainless steel (SS316/304). Its English name is Square Flange, and Square Flange is stainless steel. It helps connect pipes and accessories and is widely used in hydraulic systems.
Based on the configuration, square flange has many types, such as SHAB, SSAB, KAB, LSA, and blind flange. They have the following characteristics:
- HAB Square Flange: Comes with hex bolts and operates at a maximum pressure of 210 kg/cm2.
- SSAB Square Iron Flange: Connected with Allen socket cap screws. This flange body is smaller than SHAB and also operates at 210 kg/cm2.
- KAB square flange: Also connected by hex nuts and bolts similar to SHAB. But it operates at pressure levels of 280 kg/cm2 and 350 kg/cm2.
- LSA Square Steel Flange: The flow through this flange is L-shaped. At the same time, it also works under a pressure of 210 kg/cm2.
- Square blind flange: including female blind flange (oring face) or male flange (flat face). They are used to seal pipes to block fluid flow.
Square flange structure
The square flange has a relatively special structure. Specific parts include:
- Square Flange
- Bolt Holes
- Connecting Bolts (the part that connects to the pipe). However, with a square blind flange, there will be no bolt holes.
Technical parameters of square flange
Similar to other popular flanges on the market, square flange also has specifications. You can refer to the figures below:
- Size: DN10-DN100 (3/8″-4″)”)
- Material: carbon steel SF440A, CT3, SS400, A105, Q235, Q345, C45, or stainless steel 304, 316, 321
- Structure: 2 half flanges, 4 connecting bolts
- Working pressure: 210 kg/cm2, 280 kg/cm2, 350 kg/cm2.
- Working temperature: 180–520 degrees C
- Origin: Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam,
Standard of square steel flange
Square steel flanges are manufactured according to ISO 6164 and other standards such as:
- Japanese JIS standard: JIS B2291 / JIS F7806.
- German DIN standard: DIN PN10, DIN PN16.
- British BS standard: BS PN6, BS PN10, BS PN16
- American ANSI standard: ANSI #150, ANSI #300
Square Steel Flange Dimensions and Weight Table
Depending on each standard, pressure level, and scale of the system, square iron flanges will have slightly different sizes. You can refer to the square flange size table below:

Specifications include factors that affect the price of square flanges. They include diameter, thickness, material, brand, etc. Therefore. You need to understand the above figures to buy the right type of Flange.
Currently, steel square flanges and stainless steel square flanges are 2 types that are of great interest. Their prices also have a clear difference. For example, with steel square flanges, the price will range from 150,000 to 800,000 VND/piece (DN50 to DN150). Meanwhile, with the same size, stainless steel square flanges cost about 500,000–1,800,000 VND/piece.
Advantages of square flange
- Square flanges have a flat square surface and have gaskets to create a tight seal, limiting fluid leakage.
- Square flanges are connected by bolts and nuts, so they are easy to install and disassemble.
- This flange is also capable of withstanding high-pressure thanks to being made from many types of materials,
- such as cast iron, steel, stainless steel, etc.
- Diverse sizes, suitable for many different systems.
Applications of square flanges
With the above advantages, square flanges are used in many pipelines of:
- Hydraulic systems
- Industrial pipeline systems (water, oil, gas, chemicals, etc.)
- Shipbuilding industry (water transportation on ships)
- Agricultural industry (for irrigation)
