The complex project started in March 2013 with non-refundable ODA capital from China (about 160 million USD).
Construction of the Morodok Techo National Stadium began in 2017. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the project has been delayed several times.
The Morodok Techo National Stadium is designed to resemble a sailing ship and stands 39.9 meters (131 feet) tall, featuring two “prongs” that reach a height of 99 meters (325 feet). The design was inspired by the Khmer Sampeah gesture. Surrounding the stadium is a wide moat, constructed in the Angkorian style. The exterior of the stadium features a motif based on the Rumdul flower (Mitrella mesnyi), which is the national flower of Cambodia.
