Flange ANSI /ASME B16.5-1996 series 150

Flange ANSI 150  fabricated according to ANSI/ASME B16.5 for the 150 series. Usually made from forged material and has a machined surface.
Flanges are available in nominal sizes (NPS) from 1 ⁄ 2″ to 24″ and have a working pressure class of 150.
However, these pressure levels are not synonymous with the maximum pressure in Psi. Instead, the maximum pressure depends on the material of the flange and the temperature.
So don’t be confused like JIS, DIN, BS, …
For example, the maximum pressure for a 150 series flange is 285 Psi and for a 300 series flange, it is 740 Psi. Provided that the flange is fabricated from ASTM a105 carbon steel and the temperature is below 100°F.

The number of washers and bolts is usually specified by ASME B16.5. From 4~20 sets of bolts depending on the diameter. In the petrochemical industry, bolts and studs are commonly fabricated to ASTM A193 B7 STUD and ASTM A193 B16 because of their high tensile stress.
Flange materials usually have the symbol ASME:

• SA-105 (specification for forged carbon steel, for pipeline applications).
• SA-266 (technical standard for carbon steel, forged for pressure vessel components).
• SA-182 (specification for wrought or rolled alloys- Steel pipe flanges, forging fittings, valves, and parts for high-temperature service).

Application of ASME B16.5 series 150. flange

Flanges in general and ANSI 150 flanges, in particular, are used to:

• To cover or close the end of a pipe.
• To connect pipes to each other, valves, fittings, and special items such as filters and pressure vessels.
• To minimize or prevent the leakage of fluid in the pipe.
• Used to construct undersea oil and gas pipelines or blast furnaces.
• Used in nuclear power plants.
